In recent years, scientific research is gaining visibility and causing impact at a rate greater than ever before. As a result, many members of the public are curious to glimpse into the world of scientists and see the scientific process. One opportunity to share the work of researchers with a non-scientific audience is through exhibitions to inspire and foster curiosity in visitors. For this reason, the Cluster of Excellence Physics of Life (PoL) has unveiled an exciting hands-on exhibition delving into the fundamental questions of life. This interactive exhibition, titled “What is Life?”, takes place at the COSMO Science Forum, and invites curious visitors to explore biology and life from a different perspective. Interactive experiments, science comics, and videos demonstrate how the interplay of molecules, cells, and tissues shapes an organism.
Previously at Technische Sammlungen Dresden until October 27th 2024, the exhibition has now been developed for a new space. From March 18th until May 8th, the COSMO exhibition space will be open from 1pm until 6pm every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The exhibition is free and perfect for all ages and backgrounds, everyone is welcome! Thanks to numerous volunteers from the PoL community, including PhD students, postdoctoral scientists, and SHK/WHK staff, there will be a PoL member present every day of the exhibition to engage with the public and answer questions. We are looking forward to visitors, so be sure to stop by!
The exhibition was organised by PoL researchers Marcus Jahnel and Professor Benjamin Friedrich. Illustrations on the exhibition panels were designed by artist Priyanka Oberoi. Additionally, the PoL comics were developed by graphic artist John Chad in collaboration with the PoL Public Relations and Outreach Committee.
