The Cluster of Excellence, Physics of Life (PoL) will be featured in an upcoming episode of ‘Exzellent erklärt’, a German language podcast released on the 1st of August. The series, featuring podcast episodes on the 57 institutes in Germany, is funded by both federal and state governments under the Excellence Strategy. The goal of the podcast is to produce episodes on each Excellence Cluster, capturing important contemporary issues and highlighting the researchers trying to address them.
Now, it is time to highlight the world of biophysics, and the scientists making breakthroughs in the field. Professor Benjamin Friedrich, and Professor Marcus Jahnel, two core group leaders at PoL, will be interviewed by the podcaster Larissa Vassilian. The professors will discuss their research, and describe the broader work conducted at PoL. Both biophysicists discuss how research at PoL bridges between numerous scientific disciplines to understand biological systems. Also, both researchers will showcase some topics of special interest, such as long non-coding RNAs, the conversation of chemical energy into mechanical work, and the use of theoretical models to uncover fundamental biological principles. All of which have potential applications in medicine, and biotechnology.
