At the Dresden Science Night, universities, research institutions and science-related companies open their facilities, laboratories, lecture halls and archives to the public.
We welcome you to join Dresden’s major public science event from 5pm to Midnight! The vivid and creative science exhibits at the event attract a large crowd of interested locals. There is something for everyone in the program: from school children to seniors and from science novices to researchers from other faculties.

The Campàs Lab will present at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics, 1st floor, Pfotenhauerstrasse 108, 01307 Dresden:
- What are the forces that make us grow? The research group of Otger Campàs at the Cluster of Excellence Physics of Life at TU Dresden has developed several new tools to measure and apply forces within developing embryos and miniature, lab-grown organs. To measure forces, scientists put magnetic oil droplets into a tissue and image them with a microscope to see the forces put on the droplet. Observe those forces in action!

PoL will have a joint booth with experiments & show-cases at the CRTD, Fetscherstraße 105, 01307 Dresden, represented by the Doyle Lab, the Fischer-Friedrich Lab, the Friedrich Lab, and the Jahnel Lab (PoL/BIOTEC).
- Understanding the physics of life -- Why do we need Physics in Biology? A lot, in fact: With hands-on-experiments, videos and demonstrators, we want to show how biological cells generate mechanical forces, e.g., to divide, change shape, or move inside the body exactly where they are needed. How this works, and how these processes are switched on and off during the development of an embryo or when tissue repairs itself is what we want to find out at the cluster of excellence 'Physics of Life'.

PoL will also have a booth at the TUD Main building, HSZ Hörsaalzentrum, Foyer, Bergstraße 64, 01069 Dresden.
- How do cells self-organize into a living organism? At the Cluster of Excellence Physics of Life (PoL) at TU Dresden, experts from physics, biology and computer science investigate which biophysical processes in molecules, cells and tissues are responsible for giving organs their shape and place in the body. Why does the heart beat on the left side and how do the laws of physics affect our DNA? PoL looks at biological processes as complex physical phenomena, aims to understand the organizing principles of life, and then enables a new approach to address the health problems of our society. PoL is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) as a Cluster of Excellence and is a collaboration between scientists from the TU Dresden and other Dresden-based research institutions of the DRESDEN-concept network.
